Cedar & Paw

We read the bad reviews so you stop buying the same disappointment twice.

Every product here was chosen by reading what real owners wrote after being let down. Not the five star ones. The other ones.

What they wrote, and what we stocked because of it

Three of them

On nail clippers

although the light is nice, in NO way can I see the quik.
One of about fifteen people saying the same thing, about a clipper we did not make

So we stock

The clipper you use with your hands, not your eyes.

Black nails have melanin all the way through and melanin absorbs light, so no lit clipper on the shelf can show you the quick. That is physics, not your technique. This one has a grinder on the other end, and the grinder works by feel.

On brushes and deshedding tools

I realized I will never win after two days in a row brushing him for 40+ minutes and the third day doing it I was getting the same sized pile of hair.
The most repeated failure in the whole category

So we stock

The bath that ends the blow out instead of managing it.

A brush only ever reaches the hair that has already worked its way to the surface. Underneath it sits a packed layer of dead undercoat that refills the surface overnight. Water and a soap free concentrate reach the layer the brush cannot.

On plant sprays

I would have loved for this planet-friendly product to work, but sadly, it was totally ineffective. It smells great but none of the bugs died.
The trade everyone in this aisle is asked to make

So we stock

You should not have to pick between a nice smelling house and dead gnats.

The gentle sprays mostly perfume the room. The ones that work tend to leave a smell you notice for days. This one is built to do the job without turning your kitchen into a warning label.

How we choose

A one star review is worth more than a catalogue.

First

We read the one and three star reviews

The five star ones tell you a product arrived. The three star ones tell you exactly where it stops working, and who it stops working for.

Then

We find why it failed, not that it failed

Almost every complaint in these categories turns out to be structural. The tool was doing something the buyer was never told it could not do.

Only then

We stock the version that answers it

One product per problem. If nothing on the market actually answers the complaint, we would rather carry nothing than carry the same disappointment in a nicer box.

Straight with you

What we will not do to you

  • We will not tell you that you were doing it wrong.
  • We will not put a countdown timer on a decision about your animal.
  • We will not hide what a product does badly until after you have bought it.

If a product only works on some animals, that goes on its page in plain words. You should find that out here, not on your own dog.

Start with whichever one you have already failed at.
